Goodwin Landing Net is a design named after the stream my father first took me fishing on where my addiction to fishing started.  Goodwin Stream is in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of Southern Colorado.  At one time there was a series of beaver dams that created a magical place that was heaven on earth for catching Brook trout and making memories. The Goodwin Beaver ponds were a keystone to my family and close friends where we all grew up fishing and making memories.  This culminated with one final trip in 2018 where all of brothers and sister made the trip up there to capture pictures and memories to share with my father before he passed the following spring.  This net was my first personal design of a landing net. It was developed to be the perfect Brook Trout Stream net.   The Goodwin is a triangular shaped net that is 11” – 12” on each side with rounded corners.  This is a great net for the small streams where memories that last a lifetime are made.

Net frames are composed of 3 separate layers of hardwood approximately 1/8” thick that are steamed, glued, and bent around a frame to form the net.  Nets are finished with two coats of tung oil and 6 coats of Spar Varnish.  Each net comes complete with an aged brass D-ring to be able to attach to any type of lanyard or carabiner of choice.  The hole the D-ring goes through is lined with brass tubing to provide long life of wear and to seal the wood from taking on moisture.  This handle design on the base of the net is designed to avoid splitting issues that come with the use of eye hooks.   The net itself is a rubber net that is the safest for the fish and each net is triple stitched to the frame to provide a long life of use. Each handle is made from hardwood to provide long, comfort and an individual look no one else will have on the stream.  The landing net frames finish thickness is ¾” thick.  Brass pins in the handle are set and approximately 2” intervals to aid in the measurement of your catch.

All Rustic Angler Forge nets are handmade one at a time in my shop located in the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado.  The San Luis Valley is where the Rio Grande and the Conejos Rivers provide some of the finest trout waters in the state and the headwaters to the Rio Grande Cutthroat.  Each net is individually designed and there are no two nets produced alike.  The simple changes in wood grain provide a different look and personality to each net.  Purchasing one of these nets is choosing an heirloom that is one of a kind at a price that doesn’t limit taking it to the stream every trip to land that perfect trout and making great memories.
